Happy Belated Beltane.
Happy Belated May Day.
Happy Belated May 1st.

My Mother was pagan and she didn't even know it, though she would never understand or admit it now. When I was little, on May 1st, my Mother and I would make paper conical baskets with little handles and put fresh flowers in them. Then I would run around the neighborhood hanging them on doorknobs, knocking, then running away. (did any of you do this?)

I love my parents.
*sigh* Here comes the guilt...but at least it's a happy-reminscing guilt. :}

No.

My mother had me thinking that the boogey monster lived around the perimeter of our yard. She said, he would only come out and bite me if I was not back in the yard before the sun set.

This would explain my need for extensive therapy that I never received.

ooo, mayday! i had forgotten about that...a memory faded. my grandmother and i used to do the same thing-make little woven baskets, and fill them with flowers we would cut from her garden, then distribute them around the nieghborhood to my family and some of her friends. i had forgotten how splendid that was! your post has brought back fabulous memories....
i will have to rekindle this tradition with my daughter!

May Day! Ah, fond memories of my earliest years. My mom, such the hippy back then, used to have us make baskets with spring things like flowers but I can't recall what we did with them. I think she'd learned it from her mom when she was a kid in Idaho. Me, I'm more for gettin' naked and dancing around the Maypole or jumping over bonfires then heading out to the fields to ensure the next year's fertility...

My mom and I would just dance around the backyard and make noise by banging potlids together.
