I drove, fast.
From the 101 to the 10, past the 405 to PCH
Followed it all along the coast.
No direction, just drive.
Drive and keep driving.

There was something I was going to tell you, but I forgot.

I know there's water there, to my left, just below those cliffs.
I know it, but I can't see it.
I can smell it, hear it, touch it, taste it, but I can't see it.
I can see a light up ahead, dimly sweeping the sky for cobwebs.
A lighthouse? I'll drive to it and see. Then, that's when I'll turn back.
Drive. Cars get fewer. Trees turn from green to black. Stars shine brighter. Wind gets colder.

Wait.
It's dark. I can't see the road. I can't see it's safe yellow lines.
Wait, stop. Where are you taking me?
I see you now. I see you below, coming towards me...as fast as I was driving. I see you crash against the shore. In the silence, I see your white-tipped black hands reaching for me.
Air escapes, water moves in and...
