It's not pronounced "a boat" or "a boot".

I honestly don't hear a difference in the way I say 'about' and the way y'all say it, but all my American friend giggle when I say it, so I guess there is a difference.

There is also the theory that it's just me.
Apparently I prounounce things funny. (according to my friends in Western Canada) being from Eastern Canada and raised with British parents makes me pronounce things funny, apparently.

But you are right about the 'ow' sound.

It's pronounced ah-bow-t.

Least thats how I say it.

I've no idea how y'all say it.

But I'll keep the 'ow' sound and give you back your "y'all".
