Yes. I have four tattoos, and one of them is a half-sleeve tribal piece. I get "what is it supposed to be?" to "did it hurt?" One person asked me once what I would do if I wanted to get married. Geez!
My most recent encounter was at the Baltimore Museum of Art. I was standing in front of a huge abstract expressionist painting, and the guard wanted to know what my tribal piece was supposed to be. The irony was enough to keep me amused for the rest of the day.
