Some part of that made me think of Boogiepop Phantom. That's one rockin' ass anime. One boy in it has the ability to see people's pain as a spider over their heart, and he grabs it and eats it so they don't hurt anymore.
I wish I could do that sometimes. Just eat people's pain spiders so they'd be okay.
I think his problem is that he can't eat his own spider. At least, I don't think he can.
