Apr. 1st, 2002 12:32 amIt wasn't for lack of poison that I made it home.
3.000 pounds of steel, a layered pink and purple haze of sky, marine layer fog so close you can touch it, but you'll never reach it, music, a new CD, thoughts scattered over a busy highway...no time to pause, collect, regroup...gone.
It smells not of rain, but of heavy wet air...not oppressive, elevating. I love the drive home, late. I love the drive. Home. Late. Faster than I should, always faster than I should. Gaining time, losing space, only to find that time is lost again.
And then a song, never heard before tonight, made me cry for no reason save everything.
Had it been raining, what a beautiful tragedy I would have made.
What We Want To Believe In
She was my sunlight
She made my skin glow
She had these bow legs
I didn't want her to go
Blue skies were turning red
Learned my grade the hard way
She loved me or so she said
So I say
We all believe
What we want to believe in
We like to dream
What we want to believe in
This is the real thing
I stretched her dress tight
I cut her hair low
I made her speak right
I didn't want her to go
Grey skies beneath my feet
I slipped on truth the hard way
She preferred herself to me
So I say
We all believe
What we want to believe in
We like to dream
And we want to believe it
So we all believe
What we want to believe in
This is the real thing so dance
Every woman & man
In cloud cuckoo land

Rob Dickinson
Date: 2002-04-01 12:48 pm (UTC)I have meet Catherine Wheel twice. The first time it was just Rob sitting up by the bar by himself. I recognized him, and he kept staring back at me, with this huge smile on his face. I finally got up, walked over and said, "nice show" to him. He said, "thanks". I turned around and left. That was all that I needed to improve my evening.
The second time, their record label, PGD threw a party for them. Open bar, free show and parting with the band before and after the gig. That was a great hook-up. I still have that autographed flat that they all signed and the backstage pass somewhere. Damn, I almost forgot all about that, until this post- OUCH, am I old!
Now I have to listen to some Wheel this afternoon and weep into my coffee!

Date: 2002-04-01 01:00 pm (UTC)wow! i am very jealous of your meeting him. i always wondered what he smells like. probably very warm, spicy and nice. like leather and patchouli.
all i have is a stolen copy of ferment with their autographs from my friend will, who is as much of a fan (maybe even more). he has a big autographed poster framed in his apartment. too bad he and i disagree about the best album though. i guess it doesn't matter.
don't feel old. feel rad for having signed shit from an awesome band.
i saw that you like the white stripes. aren't they the dog's bollocks? i saw them at the troubador- excellent.
