Yesssssss. I say "misery" when I say something like "My Mom was born in misery." Because yes, I'm THAT cool. ;)
You've been to Rolla? Daaaaaamn.
It was kind of cool though. We took this trip to find my Mother's roots when I was about 10 or 11. We ended up going to some really old, out-of-the-way cemeteries and I remember talking to the funeral director's wife a long time about being a writer. She gave me a book of her poems which I found when I was home. She was cool. Then we ate at this place called...crap...I think it was Hampton House? Houston House? Something like that. It reminded me of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes.
Next year, whether I'm living there or not, I hope to go home and go with my Sister and Grandpa up to see the Great, Great's gravesites in Beatty, KS. Some of them are so old that you can barely get to them because of the dirt roads and overgrowth. I want to go take some peek-tures. :
okay, i guess i shouldn't say that i've been TO rolla so much as i've been THRU rolla .. i'd gone through it a number of times on the way to visit my grandmother in dallas at the time when i lived in st louis.
as far as missouri goes, i've pretty much been all over it except around the ozarks area. my first semester of college was spent in a tiny little crap town called maryville at northwest missouri state university. been southeast to cape girardeau. out I-44 toward the ozarks (i've just never stopped!). to columbia to visit my friend when she was attending mu. to hannibal to do the whole mark twain thing.
