Oh man, this is going to give you a good idea of how nutso I can be.
The word "silly". I recently discovered I don't like it. I'm wondering why. To me, it just seems dismissive or condescending. Maybe I'm relating it to something specific or someone...I have no idea. If you've said this word to me recently, I apologize...I'm not trying to single anyone out and this isn't about you. I just noticed it because it's been said a lot lately.
Hmmm...could be because the only time I can really relate hearing it is when I was trying to be serious, or trying to get a point across and the other person says something like, "ohhh, you're just being silly."
Carry on...my wayward son...

Date: 2002-06-20 06:30 pm (UTC)I find it endearing in the right moments, though -- for example, I say, "Silly boy," or "Silly girl," when other people might say, "Oh, you goof!" in a teasing-fond way.

Date: 2002-06-20 06:37 pm (UTC)Like back in the day, when somebody said that the world *wasn't flat*....somebody said "Oh you're just being silly"
etc. etc.
It's a cop out.
But then again, I do think it's nice to actually be silly....like when it's late at night and you've been up for more than 24 hours. That's a different kind of silly....and is fun.
