Hello, your mom!

This will be the main page of my future website. I hope to create an image map of a blood/seal type thing with my spirally-J signature stamped in the middle. The droplets will be the links to other pages. I have no idea how to do any of this...but dammit, I'll find out.

SHA!

I cannot recommend enough...

...HTML 4 For The World Wide Web, by Elizabeth Castro. It's one of the Visual Quickstart Guides from Peachpit Press.

It covers everything you'll need to start -- including some basic cool Javascript tricks (popup windows, mouseovers, etc.), CSS/style sheets, and yes, imagemaps. I still use it as a reference, because the information's laid out so well.

I believe Frontpage and Dreamweaver have utilities in them to knock out the imagemap for you, but you'll be so much prouder of yourself if you take the time to learn to do it yourself.

NONO! Don't buy a book, Blu!

Just steal your code, like everyone else.

:)

Yeah, I don't think I'll be buying any HTML books.
I just do the tutorials at htmlgoodies.com. :D
I'm more of a mess-around-with-it-until-you-figure-it-out-kinda-girl.

Plus, those damn books are expensive!

I would /so/ do the headstompy dance all over you, but I know you're joking. I'm also pretty sure you saw me try to eviscerate that kid who filched someone else's graphics, too. ;)

those books are expensiiiiiive...ooo, but if I get the part-time job at the bookstore again, I can check it out for 2 weeks....hmmmmm.

Thank you for the recommendation! :D Though I do like to play around with something to learn it, it's nice to be able to say, "OH FUCK IT! Where's the damn manual?" :D

I recommend the Peachpit Press books because they're marvelously affordable, actually. That's the only reason I can afford them, myself. ;) $19.99 USD, the back of the book tells me.

Admittedly, I'm a book nut. I prefer having a physical reference book full of dog-eared pages and notes.

DevGuru (http://www.devguru.com/) is my online reference of choice, though it's not so hot to learn by. I think I hit it more than rotten.com, these days.

And, as always, I offer my webgeeky self for any questions you have.
