Aug. 1st, 2002 01:23 pmU.S. LOOKS TO IMPROVE IMAGE ABROAD
WASHINGTON (AP)--The White House is raising the profile of a little-known office meant to polish America's image abroad and rebuild ties with allies alienated by Bush administration policies. The Office of Global Communications has existed for months, quietly working with foreign news media outlets to get the American message out. The office was an outgrowth of an earlier administration effort to build public support overseas for the war on terrorism. But a series of administration decisions before and after the Sept. 11 attacks brought increasingly sharp criticism, even from some allies, spurring the administration to give new emphasis to the office.

Date: 2002-08-05 10:17 am (UTC)I truly can't believe you're so trustworthy of the media. Read a paper indeed. As if the formerly "repected" news agencies didn't have a bias, a motive, a desired outcome of all that they report, especially now. Focusing on Florida WOULD be assinine if we didn't have an assnine electoral process to begin with. Alas, we do.
The Supreme Court can suck shit. Daddy Bush put a lot of those fuckers up there, many of them want to retire rich, of COURSE Baby Bush is "legally" President. You amaze me. Here you are acting like a forward thinker, someone who seems to want to challenge the system, but you don't like to look at the bigger picture it seems. Everyone has a motive, everyone had a self-centered reason for putting that fucknut in office.
Weehoo, the majority of the world has expressed some dissent with Bush & Co. Big fucking deal. It would be easier to count the people who ARE happy with the way things are going. Yet I don't think ANYONE knows what's really going on, nor do many people care to even find out. Does anyone know how big Bush & Co. is? Or would that hurt the American public's wee brains to think about?
That's half his time in office. He's fucked up quite a bit in 2 years I'd say (Kyoto anyone? Yeah, yeah, there are many other things to be pissed about, but that's one of my main beefs). Give it time? You think he's going to be President NEXT election? HA! So we sit back and ride the next 2 or so years out, head between our legs, preparing to kiss our ass goodbye. Very good, nicely done.
WTF?! Clinton deployed U.S. troops more than Reagan or Bush Sr. combined?! Who gives a fuck?! How the hell does that prove he "wasn't exactly a friend of peace, environment, or foreign policy". At least the bastard had some skill in dealing with foreign countries. At least the bastard KNEW where these foreign countries were and actually read the reports that were given to him. Like I give a crap if some intern was sucking him off while he did it. Jesus Christ, if you're going to be an a-hole, be a smooth a-hole and don't fuck up the country TOO much.
The man is a monkey, a drunken, retarded monkey...and he's not even good at that. I bet he doesn't have a CLUE why he's in office, except that it was expected of him, handed to him.
Re:
Date: 2002-08-05 10:43 am (UTC)Im objective. Meaning, i read all sorts of accounts and believe the truth lies somewhere within.
Considering that the press is generally liberal in political matters, that the conglomerate was a group of press agencies with various bias of their own, that it was a group effort that sought not to better one agency or the other...its a fairly trustworthy assesment of the election.
So no, i don't blindly trust the media but in this instance i think its safe in believe what they uncovered.
Yes a lot of the Supreme Court was appointed by Bush Sr., some from Reagan and a couple from Clinton. Moreover, they were put there legally. If you have a better idea id love to hear it.
Yes Bush rejects world treaties like a somfabitch. Kyoto, ABM, Geneva Convention to name a few. This is not news.
*WTF?! Clinton deployed U.S. troops more than Reagan or Bush Sr. combined?! Who gives a fuck?! How the hell does that prove he "wasn't exactly a friend of peace, environment, or foreign policy".*
To me it shatters a myth amongst liberals that Clinton was a peace loving fucknuts liberal. I dunno about you, but I am for peace. Not lobbing missles into a sovereign country anytime a terrorist organization bombs one of our ships.
Talking about a presidents intellect and articulation is one thing. Talking about what he does in term of policy is another. No shit Clinton was better articulated and educated. But thats really beside the point.

hippie
Date: 2002-08-05 10:59 am (UTC)No, it's not "one thing" it's all connected. I hate it when people like to separate things that have great bearing on each other. Clinton was better educated and articulated and that MADE him better at dealing with foreign policy. One relies on the other, dingleberry.
:)
Now if people would stop walking by my fucking cube, I'd be happier
Re: hippie
Date: 2002-08-05 11:20 am (UTC)yeah but to assume that Clinton (or any president) is the sole composer of foreign policy is foolish and naive.
yeah he sounds better and indeed that articulation provides more comfort...but its just that.
ultra violence keeps people out of my cube.
Re: hippie-skippy
Date: 2002-08-05 12:02 pm (UTC)Whoa there, fluffy...when did I say THAT?!
yeah he sounds better and indeed that articulation provides more comfort...but its just that.
If only. Does it not bother you that this man represents us to the world?
Yeah, it's hard to attack people when they're merely walking by my cube.
Re: hippie-skippy
Date: 2002-08-05 12:08 pm (UTC)yes and no.
it used to bother me that Jesse Helms was (is for a few more months) the chairman of Senate Foreign Relations committee, as if he's the kind of ass pipe we need mouthing off to the world.
BUT
i do give the world some credit, they know he (they) don't speak for all Americans. No more than I judge...say Cuba based on what Castro says.
