U.S. LOOKS TO IMPROVE IMAGE ABROAD
WASHINGTON (AP)--The White House is raising the profile of a little-known office meant to polish America's image abroad and rebuild ties with allies alienated by Bush administration policies. The Office of Global Communications has existed for months, quietly working with foreign news media outlets to get the American message out. The office was an outgrowth of an earlier administration effort to build public support overseas for the war on terrorism. But a series of administration decisions before and after the Sept. 11 attacks brought increasingly sharp criticism, even from some allies, spurring the administration to give new emphasis to the office.

Arrogant, stupid white men

Our voting systems absolutely need work. no argument there.

If Nader or Gore had won, would you still be as cranky over the voting systems' flaws?

Yes, yes I would. The incompetence I saw didn't reflect on the Big Man in Office. I don't think re-vamping the voting procedure and correcting problems is high on any President's list of promises. Isn't that more of a state thing anyway?

as i understand it, state's voting methods most comply with federal outlined mandates. theres not one way to vote, but many the feds approve of.

however the standards are a bit out dated as we know and i believe the fed passed tighter standards since the election but its up to the states to impliment them.

Yeah, can they pass a law stating that no one over 55 is allowed to work the polls? Cause that would REALLY help me come November.

if they passed that law you'd be even more understaffed than ever.

im extra patient with the elderly at my polling station...because if they dont do it, no one will.

Listen here Mr. Devil's Advocate...

That was actually the point I was making, so many oldies. Yeah, yeah, respect your elders. I'll respect my elders when they deserve it and when they respect me back.

DO NOT misunderstand me. I am patient and courteous with the people I work the polls with. HOWEVER, there is an inherent difference between the older people in Los Angeles vs. say, the Midwest. Here, they seem be think the world owes them something, that YOU owe them something, and that they know exactly what is going on, when they don't. They're just like every other asshole in the majority of this city. And perhaps this is because they have to be, because I would imagine it's hard to be an older person in this gleaming candy-coated hairball we call Los Angeles, but that's a reason, not an excuse.

If it were not for the other competent, SANE, guy I was working the polls with, I would request a different precinct. Instead, we were able to sit back, chuckle, and give knowing glances to each other.

Like being trapped in a hen-house it was.

I don't believe in rewarding people with extra patience and kindness by default though. If you're an idiot, you're an idiot, no matter how old you are.

Yeah, yeah...now I'm playing Devil's Advocate. I was actually very tolerant and nice to them, but it doesn't stop me from bitching. Nothing really does. ;
