No sermons and serenades this evening.
It's my fault, getting home this late...I should have left work earlier. Tonight was basically a repeat of last night, only it wasn't the worshipers of Church 156 North giving me the trouble, but the seemingly-drunk guy who REALLY wanted my water on Church 33 East. Note to self: waiting at Venice and LaBrea at midnight is not fun. Some guy pulled up to the bus stop and tried to pick me up. Luckily, I had my head turned where my little radio headphone thing was showing and I could ignore him without much hassle.

Tell me O' Men of the World: WHY CAN'T YOU FUCKING LEAVE A GIRL ALONE?

Next time someone persists in badgering me for fucking water, I'm going to tell them "Sure! If you don't mind herpes."

Are you carrying mace? Or a knife? Something for protection? If you're not, you should be. I worry about you all the time these days. You don't know this, but I do. I took the bus for YEARS... YEARS, not months. And I walked everywhere. I used to walk from Filler to Vine every day and every night, and took busses and trains from where I live now to Downtown daily and nightly, and from West Hollywood to Downtown for an even longer stretch. I only realized afterwards just how dangerous it could be. It was only a couple of years ago that I began driving myself around this city. I've been lucky. But things are worse now. Please, please be careful.

I was actually going to call you the other night when I was at Venice/La Brea. But it was so late, I didn't want to wake you. It turned out okay though. I can't imagine doing this all the time. I really have to work my schedule out better, so that I'm not taking the bus late at night all the time.

Maybe I should have put my bus-post here, instead of on the earlier entry...oh well.

What I absolutely hate is getting honked at by passing cars. This most often happens when I have a dress on, so I know it's guys checking me out. But the funny part is, at the speed these cars are usually going, all they could possibly tell is that I'm a person in a dress--not whether I'm actually attractive. And by the time they have passed their judgement and sped by, there's no possibility of reciprocation, even if I was that stupid.

So what does this vehicular equivalent of a wolf-whistle accomplish? Exactly nothing, except to tell the entire world that you're an ASSHOLE!

Fuck. I want to tell you to be careful, but somehow I feel that being careful at a busstop or on a bus in the middle of the night is not necessarily something you can control.

No, not ultimately. But I do watch how I handle myself...you know, don't draw attention to yourself, don't do anything that will spark conversation, try not to look anyone in the eye, look disinterested, etc. It's not that bad. I may be a little scared inside, but damned if I'm going to show it.

Years ago, I was waiting for a bus at Santa Monica and LaBrea. Some guy asked me if I wanted a ride. I said, "No, thanks." He proceeded to circle the damn block 3 or 4 times! I walked about a mile and finally lost him. He was probably some serial killer.

One time I was going past that intersection, and the cops had a bunch of guys put their hands against the brick wall. I never did find out what that was about. What's weird is I actually felt safer there than at LaBrea. Go figure.

Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer for that, as I tend to avoid them at all costs for fear of eventual disaster. That's just the kind of paranoid freak-o I am.

I can only guess it is some attempt at a power-play, one that they feel can be done without getting arrested.
