I like to argue. (But not when there are emotions involved and not when it becomes clear that it's going nowhere.) So I think I'm done there, as it seems to be going nowhere...but it felt good to purge. It amazes me sometimes, just how much I will play Devil's Advocate. But the only way to come to a good, solid conclusion is to argue all points...in my opinion.

Yesterday, at the bookstore, I made a stink about the religious holiday music we've taken to playing. There's just one disc with these horrible religious songs on it and I just kept bitching until they took it out. >:D Weee, I'm annoying, but effective. :p Before I started complaining, I would just go up and skip the song on the CD player, thus sending a subtle message to the managers. Heheh. Whatever man, I'm down with "the holidays", but only when I get to spend it with friends and family. THAT is what they mean to me. If you want your religious meanings and shite, fine. I'm down with Santa, that jolly old bitch, and I'm even down with Jesus, to a point,...as a good person who probably just wanted to do good things. But take your organized religion and shove it up your ass. Or use it, whatever, just don't push it on me. What really pissed me off is what one of the newbie co-workers said, some towhead who looks like he was in a frat and believes that going to church will "save his soul". (INCIDENTALLY, I didn't think that church bit before he said what he said to me, so shut it) Anyway, when I explained, rather aloofly, what I was talking about with the manager, that I wanted the religious stuff out, he(towhead frat boy), semi-joking, said, "Oh, well that's okay, if you want to go to hell." To which I replied, chuckling, "Well, seeing as I don't believe in hell, that might be difficult." As I reached for the ringing phone, he said "Well, I do, so it doesn't matter." I merely said "PSSH! Uh huh...." and laughed before answering the phone. As he's tried flirting with me, I hope my newfound Hell-fate and heretic ways coerce him into a cease and desist. >_<

Exactly how much arrogance does it take to believe that it doesn't matter WHAT someone else believes. YOUR faith, your convictions, are so strong that it overrides whatever someone else might believe. And to think I'm moving back to a state in which that "pity tone" for "sinners" seems to be in every voice. You know, that "Oh, you poor dear...going to hell and such. Let me "save" you...and if you resist, well, I tried. Tsk tsk." WHY can't people leave each other alone about this?

If everyone would just FORGET about what's going to happen after they die, maybe some of us would actually live. If you just die, dead, kaput, pushing up daisies, worm food, the big sleep....Naaaaaaatheeeeng, then this is ALL YOU HAVE. Make the most of it, you assholes.

I say that, with teh love.

I want to go home now.
No worky.
Home.

One of the main reasons I'm no longer Catholic: Watching my dad come out of a church service with a sermon dedicated to tolerance and forgiveness, and scream at all the other drivers in the parking lot to get out of his way--and then coming home to Mom and telling her about all those awful drivers.

Lesson I took from this: Just going to church does NOT "save" you, or make you any holier, if you're an asshole everywhere else. Live your religion, and you won't need to talk about it.

And, while we're on the subject, do you know what a buggeringly difficult thing it can be to find non-denominational holiday cards with angels on them?

shit. I gotta buy stamps.

*nods* Well said.
And those are some sexy soapbox poses. ;)

Go to Waldenbooks or Borders (I don't think you have Brentano's there). I know we carry cards with angels and they're either blank or have something about "Peace on Earth" or some shite.
;)
