I love the reasoning behind it. It's like holding a gun to the horse's head and screaming "YOU'D BETTER ADOPT HIM, OR ELSE...BAM, MEAT FOR EUROPEANS!" I'm surprised they didn't claim it was all going to the French. Man, those were fun times, all that France-hatin'. I loves me some Freedom Fries.

Seriously though, is it any different than cattle slaughter? Or the animals that get put down at the Humane Society? I guess cows aren't cute enough and all the puppies and kittens with the wittle sad eyes and the fluffy fur, well, you don't see them being killed, so it's okay. I guess I can't really chide people for being irresponsible with animals, they're irresponsible enough with their own kind.

Know what blows goat nards? When you can't stop thinking about someone you cannot have.

It's not the same as cattle slaughter nowadays because how often do you find a natural cow in the wild? These horses are the last of the free roaming horse population. Someday in the distant "1984" future, you won't find any free range wild animals anywhere in America. Even lovebugs and doodlebugs will be tagged and listed in a database!

Of course, this is just some senator talking out of his ass. He really doesn't know. I would assume that adopting a wild horse and then trying to train him is an extremely difficult if not maybe sometimes impossible task. Not too many people want that chore, I would think.

Yes, but how many people would be all for protecting the wild cows, if there were any? It's the same part of our brain that is a little more sad when someone beautiful dies. It's the same stupidity that gushes forth in "What a waste". And what DO you do when the population gets out of control? I'm not for this bill, not by a fucking long-shot. I'm just angry at human irresponsibility, government (conservative) "solustions" and illogical thinking.

To me, the most ridiculous thing Senator Burns said was this, "And while their sale is a last resort, it is our hope that bringing this problem to light will motivate the federal agencies and horse advocates alike, and offer new opportunities to find these animals proper, caring homes," What a dumbfuck solution only half-disguised as an effort to "motivate" people.

As someone above noted, my real reason for not liking this is not because I have something in particular against horses being eaten, but because I would wish to protect such species which still do roam wild. If there were a species of wild roaming cattle, I'd be for their preservation and protection as well. There isn't much room or opportunity for that in the US countryside these days, it seems everything is up for sale/drilling/slaughter, and that is wrongheaded, I feel. There is something to be said for heritage of flora and fauna, and taking steps to preserve it. Most people seem to just not like the idea of eating horses because they are beautiful animals, etc. (I call it Warm Fuzzy Logic) - cows, chickens, and pigs are dirty barnyard animals so it is easy for many to dissociate themselves from the fact that it's still killing something with a mother... oh and PS, pigs are really quite smart. This whole business though, just seems stupid and wrong.

I agree with all of that. It's wrong on MANY levels, as are most things this administration does. I'm just a bit touchy about the "this animal can be killed, this one can't" issue, most likely due to my recent experience with attempting to "save" some kittens.

Warm Fuzzy Logic, that's good.
