to distract you with something shiny....
I give you....

My First Oil Painting, approx. 2' x 3'
It's a "close-enough" copy of this.
The more I look, the more I see what needs fixing. But for now, she's going in my bedroom.
Detail.
Huh...it's much better looking in person. Ah well, I'm still amazed that I could do that, never having used oils before. Now I'm hooked. I'm taking Painting II in the summer...and I'm quitting one of my jobs to do it.
Also picking up my Holga pics (from San Fran) today. And Eric and I have decided to take Photo I at the Lawrence Arts Center. I've called my possible investor for the coffee shop, just waiting for a return phone call. I might have 2 other photo jobs lined up. I need to buy Photoshop Elements (can't afford CS right now) and do various other photo-related tasks before the wedding next month. I'm looking into volunteer vacations for the end of the year and I got an A+ on my art review notebook...my prof also said that it was "deeply felt and beautiful writing". Things are going well, all except that one thing...and that's okay.

Since you left L.A., things have just gotten better and better and
better. I envy you so much. I can't wait to dump my 9-5 and get
to the pot of gold at the end of my rainbow. Of course, our lives
and obligations are totally different, but needless to say...
You have inspired me, bigtime.

Yeah....this whole "do what you want to do" thing is GREAT. Not financially stable, but GREAT! ;)
I've inspired you? Wow...that's one of the best compliments ever. I've never felt like a hard worker. Too scattered. Working on it though.
You'll get where you're going, lady. I KNOW you will.

Man, I've dropped some cash on supplies. And I hope to secure studio space in the near future. But at least I can work up on campus any time I want. :D

And speaking of impressive... Might I say you are as well, Miss Blu. I am continually taken by your work ethic and efforts, not to mention your talent. You are definitely headed for good things, and you have worked hard for them.

I'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. Your compliments make me blush and I thank you muchly. I was always impressed with YOUR work, actually. :)

I find that the major annoyance of oils is the 6-12 month turnaround from completion to varnishing and the fun with cleanup that seems to be so much more drawn out than acrylics. Of course, my lazyness in cleanup led me to trying out pallette knife work, since there's less solvents involved, but I guess lazyness isn't exactly the best reason to go for one style over another. [grin]
Again, great job...

Thank you very much.
Yeah, I have to admit, the cleanup is what initially turned me off. But if you get a space that you can be messy in, it's GREAT.

Thing is, it is a copy of a De Lempicka and don't get me wrong, I dig her lots.
So here is mah beef: If you are this good, why am I not looking at a De Jill?
