So, I've definitely lost about a 1/3 of my hair, maybe more, in the past year. And before anyone says it's from dying my hair, let me tell you to shove it, Dr. Knowitall because WebMD says that ain't the case.

Luckily I had massive amounts of the headstuff, so it's not a total emergency. But, I've definitely noticed the thinning and let's just say, if it's because of stress, this new body betrayal isn't helping lower it. I'm seriously upset over this and I know it may be shallow but crap...it's a Libra AND a female thing. I love my hair. Seriously. It's something that defines me. Yeah, yeah....maybe this is an opportunity to find something else that defines me on a more substantial level...whatever. I want lots of healthy hair to color at my every whim. Fucking hell I hate getting old.

So, it's either stress, genetics, or a hormone imbalance. Frankly, I'm thinking it's a mix of the three and hoping it's hormones (which would explain the two periods in a month and my "moods"). I'm sure every ex-boyfriend reading this right now is nodding in acknowledgement. That's not true, but it sounds good.

Oh hell, maybe it is stress, as I sit here, casually grinding my teeth.

This was all a lame attempt to procrastinate with my painting....which I'm finding exceedingly difficult this semester.

November will/has been the busiest month so far.
I have no idea how bills/rent will be paid.
I am awesome to the nth degree.

I lose my hair when I'm depressed. And I definitely lost a whole bunch last year and went through exactly what you are going through. Mine grew back. I'm sure yours will too. I even went so far as to buy rogain for women...

Ohhhhhh....yeah....depression. Well, that would be a factor. Hmm. Wonder when my stupid sad crap will abate and give me my hair back.

I heard once you start Rogaine (which is expensive, no?) you have to keep using it?

At least I get to use power tools tomorrow.

I had a pluck test done last week where they pull out a few strands of hair and exam it under the microscope. Right away my doctor said I'm losing my hair due to stress. My initial reaction was "for two years?" Shit sucks, but in theory, eliminate the stress, the hair will grow back. Too bad losing hair causes more stress and the vicious cycle continues.

As for Rogaine, I asked him about that too. He said if it's stress induced once the stress is gone, you won't need to use rogaine anymore. Baiscally if you stop, you are at the same place you were before you started. If you are losing it due to heredity you need to continue taking it because your hair WILL fall out otherwise (same as if you weren't taking it). Does that make sense?

Anyway, I wish you the best, I know exactly what you are going through.

See, that's what I need to do. Since my sister's hair thinned a bit when she got older, I'm worried it's that. And if it's that, so help me....

When my Mom was in the final stages of her Ph.D. program, close to defense, her hair was falling out in clumps in the shower. Without being a doctor, I can almost guarantee your hair loss is due to stress. I can always tell when I am stressed that way too: the shower drain will be twice as clogged as normal, no kidding. Huge, scary hairballs with teeth.

It's not shallow at all to mourn one's hair. They don't call it a woman's crowning glory for nothing, and your hair is particularly glorious; whatever color or length I have ever seen it, it's always amazing. And it's going to be fine.

You are indeed awesome to the nth degree, and everything is going to be okay. Otherwise, I will kick its ass.

Hmmm, seems to be the consensus. It just makes me worry for the future, as I know grad school will be worse. I do this to myself, I know. It would explain the grindy-teeth too though.

I'm no doctor either, but I am a psychologist, and I side with stress too. I never noticed my losing my hair, but my stress during grad school manifested itself as severe insomnia (up for days with no sleep) and a weird OCD/forgetfulness thing. For instance, I would run downstairs to my car to go to school, forget whether I'd locked my apt door, go back up to check it, go back down to the car, and then wasn't sure if I'd just checked or not and repeat the process. It was kinda scary for awhile. But with the stress gone (and a little taking control of myself), it stopped.

Yes, you are awesome (I now have proof!). And meanwhile, I'm sure you're still as gorgeous as ever as a punk chick. :)

I had a friend who would do that when she closed the bookstore. She'd drive all the way home, after checking the door multiple times and drive all the way back to check it again. I think that was more of a "scared of doing something wrong" thing though.

Stress is quite often a factor. You may also want to change your brand of shampoo and conditioner if you don't already rotate them.

Some brands (suck it, Pantene) make my hair fall out.
