I've put up some of my portfolio: Here.
Will be adding more today.

And if anyone is truly interested in the American Sociopath t-shirt, please let me know. I'm running out of time to get them on eBay for X-mas sales and I have about 10 left.

I also have "steal your soul" with a camera on it. And a few "Sculptors Do It In 3-D".

Zoo can be bribed with cheese and rare comics but since it is what he does all day, he is not really up to do it when he gets home but it won't kill to ask.
Obs could probably help out too.

I have inquired with the Zooley and he's willing, but I want to be able to pay him. So, this will do for now. After financial aid comes in, that may be an option.

Oh, and do you have any recommendations for DSLRs?
I looked (and fondled) the new Sony Alpha, but my prof. was right, it is noisy.

I recently came all over the Nikon D80. It is inexpensive and has a hell of a 10 megapixel sensor but it is more pro than user friendly and has no dust reduction. Look up the Pentax k10D and the Canon Eos RD XTI.
Sonny just had a recall on its undershot series so I would not bet much on it.
Oh and the Nikon D200 is apparently really good too but I know little about it.

I have been thinking of getting one of those as well. I'm old school and still shoot mostly Film and print it and tone it myself but it is getting increasingly expensive and most of my beloved films have been discontinued.

S'all good.

After spending the last hour on dpreview.com, I think the D80 is my top choice right now. The D200 didn't sound THAT much better...not an extra, what, $500 better. The Canon seems to have issues with noise and underexposure. The Pentax might still be in the running.

But, I won't be buying one until mid-January, so we'll see what happens. I'm so fond of the lens on my Sony, I think that's why I get fixated.
So they recalled ALL of the Cyber-shots? Why?

The D80 will feel much heavier than your old sony, if I remember it right. Really get a feel for it. I love my Nikon F4's but they are a bitch to carry. Try and find out what your comfort level is.

The cybershots have issues with the LCD screen and humidity. Mine just went to Germany due to a sensor problem and I do not even use it that much.
Not all though but 8 models made between 2003 and 2005.

Yeah, I saw the weight was higher than the other cameras it was compared to. Sucks that there's really no high-end camera store around here where I can try it. Maybe I'll call around.

Ahhh, I think my Cyber-shot was a 2002 or 2001.

Have you ever held a pentax k1000 or a canon FT with a medium zoom? I'd say its about that weight. The D80 is no bigger and I think that the skeleton is aluminum. It is still ridiculously lighter than the f4 which is a steel tank made to withstand a nuclear blast.

Don't drool on it too much. It's darn purty.

What's your take on the Canon Rebel XT?

For a moment I though you talking about the Canon TX and wondering as to why you wanted a 30 year old camera with an obsolete lens mount. o.O

I do not know a whole lot about that one other than there was a 6 megapixel introductory model and the newest version is 8 megapixels.

Looks more than affordable and quite good though.

You know what? I think you should wait just a bit to see what they will be unveiling in the first quarter of 2007. Sigma is coming out with a 14 megapixel camera and I am willing to bet that the price of 8-10 megapixel cameras will drop sharply (and they always do after Christmas anyway). Are you in a great big hurry to get a camera?

I saw a few ads for the Sigma and I won't be actually buying a camera until mid-January. I'm just thinking this is a pretty good deal. I'm meeting with the guy next Tuesday to look at it, so we'll see.

I'd read the review, I guess what I want to know is what's your take on the 2mp difference? I mean, I could wait and get a 10 mp and pay quite a bit more what with getting a decent lens, or get an 8mp and get a good lens or two.

I'd like to have a new camera by the time school starts, but I guess it's not necessary.

I have found that often the megapixel ratio is meaningless if the sensor is shit. I can have a 14 megapixel sensor that can handle nice comfortable lighting conditions but may suck with a flash synchro and therefore I cn possibly get a 10 mpx'er that performs better due to one or another tweak.

The only way this can be figured out is by finding reviews that directly pin one camera against the other or really get down and dirty.
For that I suggest you head over to the popular photography web site:

http://www.popphoto.com/

They will really test them out and even provide galleries and stuff.
I just looked at it and they have a review of the XTi

http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/3382/camera-test-canon-eos-digital-rebel-xti.html

And like I said, with the new gen 14 mpx's coming, the 10mpx's will go down in price.

Yeah, I just picked up the new issue of that.

In your opinion, just how much do you think the D80 will go down after the new releases? If it goes to $800, or maybe even $900, I'll wait. Hmmm, I guess I should just wait and see what happens with the XTi as well.

Yargh.

Oy, now that is what I call unpredictable.
There is no way of knowing what individual companies will do but a 20% drop within 6 months of release is common, especially when new models come out from the same line. The d80 has been around since September and nikon is working on it's own 14 mpx SLR. You could probably get a few hundred knocked out on a good deal soon and retailers want to make room for newer models as well.

Dood, the Sigma isn't coming out until mid-March now. I can wait, but three months may be too long. I have plans. PLAAAANS.

I'm going to see how low I can get this guy to go on the XT and we'll see how prices are in a few weeks.
