now that it's 6 am....
Mar. 6th, 2007 05:56 amthat means it's time for bed.
go me.
but first....Help Me Get TO New Orleans .
Not only do I not have people to help pay for the car rental, but I don't have funds at all. So, if you ever wanted dirty watercolors or cool t-shirts, now's the chance. More will be up tomorrow. I still have the "sculptors do it in 3-D" shirts to put up.
My computer sucks and is probably dying. I'm dreading trying to process images from my new camera. Ugggggggggggwhycan'tigotobedatadecenthour?
OH and I'm a complete dumbass who undersold a print from the China show for $55. Live and learn, live and learn. I'm dumb. Dammit.

Date: 2007-03-08 04:48 am (UTC)I want me one o them fancy t-shirts.
$55 is waaaaaay too low for your stuff. Bitch, with a nice frame you can get 300$ off anyone with a good eye.

Date: 2007-03-08 05:07 am (UTC)My prof said I could charge $300 unframed. I know, I beat myself up for a good day and a half over that one. Now I know.
You know though, it's hard. I have things that I feel should have a lower pricetag, plus, I'm just starting out, plus I want to make art that's accessible. This is why I hate when money comes into it. Bills bills bills.
And yes, FOR YOU I will ship to yerp. Tell me which one and I'll just take the auction down. You'll have to pay exact shipping, beeyotch. Or, if you have a preferred color, I can find a shirt and print it.

Date: 2007-03-10 06:50 pm (UTC)Oh, and a kind individual has loaned my their Nikkormat EL for New Orleans use. Know anything about these? It seems like a sturdy little camera.

Date: 2007-03-10 11:08 pm (UTC)Those where neat machines. I have never used one (I had the fg, the fm2, then the f4) but I was once told that one of its flaws was shitty reading if the battery is weak. Of course, this is specific to one jaded experience from a guy that now swears by Canon.
It a Nikon and all Nikons rule only slightly less than Leicas =P
I would still suggest that you use an external light meter. However good these cameras still are, they cannot compete with a modern light meter so besides that, enjoy.
What kind of lens is on it?
If it's one of those oldie nikkor lenses have fun with dept of field and try to take some shots at the highest possible aperture. Those are wonderfully sharp lenses.

Date: 2007-03-14 09:17 pm (UTC)The lens he loaned me is a 43-86mm. Know anything about that one?
My mind is swimming with trying to get everything done and I feel like I haven't played with this camera enough. I'm bringing my shitty 35mm (which now seems to be working), so hopefully, with these and the Holga just for shits n' giggles, something will come out.

Date: 2007-03-15 02:23 am (UTC)See if you can shoot a lot around f16, f11 and even f22. I just know that nikkor optics really pop tabular grain films so I hope you are taking some kodak max and some tmax.

Date: 2007-03-15 06:29 am (UTC)And I ordered only a couple T-max, have some Tri-X, and a couple Ilford just because I wanted to try it. I guess now is not the time to try shit out, but there you go. Those are all b/w. I have a crap ton of free (which means it's probably worth dick) Fujifilm as well. I'm poor and I had to get 120 film as well (got Tri-X and Fujicolor in that).
And again, THANK YOU. Man, sometimes, I feel like a photographer imposter...sometimes the technical shit takes awhile for it to sink in with me, especially when I'm frazzled.

Date: 2007-03-16 01:02 am (UTC)I have used B&W fuji and I liked it. It's neopan, right? Nice granular film. Can't be pushed to extremes like tr-x but it's nice none the less and as easy to print as t-max.
Fuji can't be beaten for large and medium format, especially transparencies. I used to love low ISO agfa for cross processing but Agfa is no more. I was actually really sad about that. I am rather worried that all my beloved films will simply disappear one day.
I would not worry about the traditional tech stuff. Soon all that I know will be utterly useless. I'll be an "artisan" photographer and the thing is that I have to admit that the digital age will improve photography but...I dunno. There is something so freaking perfect about sloshing about chemicals and seeing the image imerge on paper or when you pull a film out of the developing tank and you look at it when it's still wet...=/
I miss the dark room and chilling with friends and sloshing about and looking at each other's work as it come out of the wash, trading printing pointers and critiques and such. That's all done with.

Date: 2007-03-09 08:28 pm (UTC)Do you do your silk screening at home or at school?
I have been meaning to get myself a kit but I would not know where to start or how to do it at home.

Date: 2007-03-09 09:54 pm (UTC)You could do other methods at home though...drawing fluid and screen filler. It's just less refined.
But I did print some of the "Steal Your Soul" shirts on a store-bought screen, so it can be done.

Date: 2007-03-10 12:14 am (UTC)I really want to check it out
I have been wanting to print on dress shirts for a while. I had a chance to do some at UNI but I passed on in favor of intaglio (which was cool but I still wanted to do the screen printing).
I am thinking of going back to school (mostly out of boredom)and I do know that the place I want to go to has the means for screen printing. We shall see.
