I saw Queen of the Damned at Mann's Chinese last night. (I love that theater.) I really enjoyed the movie, visually stunning and pretty much exactly how I pictured it when I read the books. As for the plot, they took some liberties, but I didn't mind. It's not like they fucked with a great classic. It was a little cheesy, but come on...the books were a little cheesy, the SUBJECT is a little cheesy. All in all, I think it worked rather well. (I still don't understand why they changed Magnus to Marius, but oh well.) Luckily it's been YEARS since I'd read the books, so I wasn't nitpicking. That, and I've pretty much lost respect for Anne Rice. The scene in the underground chamber with the statues of Akasha and Enkil was very close to what I pictured when I read Queen of the Damned though. Odd. Then again, Rice was getting so utterly descriptive by that point that it would be hard to envision it in many different ways. Aaliyah was very good, but I've always had a certain respect for her, even if I wasn't a huge fan. I like this more stylized version as opposed to the more drab, dirty feel of Interview (but that lent itself well to that particular book). I like that they paid attention to the resonance in Lestat's voice and the preternatural glow of the vampires.
The end shot was very, very nice indeed. The opening title sequence was good and would make any gothy kid pee black. :) I like that they used the Deftones' "Change (In the House of Flies)". I couldn't get enough of that song went if first came out...just exudes sexy-evil.

In other news, I'm never eating again. Ever.

Okay, I'm putting comments back so that people can say things about the movie if they want. But please don't try and boost my ego(that's assuming a lot, huh?). I'm not in the mood to argue.

I was never into Anne Rice in the first place. Her books bore the shit out of me.
