U.S. LOOKS TO IMPROVE IMAGE ABROAD
WASHINGTON (AP)--The White House is raising the profile of a little-known office meant to polish America's image abroad and rebuild ties with allies alienated by Bush administration policies. The Office of Global Communications has existed for months, quietly working with foreign news media outlets to get the American message out. The office was an outgrowth of an earlier administration effort to build public support overseas for the war on terrorism. But a series of administration decisions before and after the Sept. 11 attacks brought increasingly sharp criticism, even from some allies, spurring the administration to give new emphasis to the office.

Arrogant, stupid white men

Gore didn't lose the election. The votes would have come back in his favor, had the re-count continued...to paraphrase Michael Moore.

That's like saying war is good for bringing people together, which I tried to believe at one point. But I'm sorry, the bad outweighs the good. Whoop-de-doo, so people come together to fight a cause, bullshit. I don't see anyone fighting tooth-and-nail against the Bush B.S. The Bush regime stretches so far that we need an all out coup to undo the damage he is, and will, do. Now I'm not saying we're all fucked, but it's damn near close. Way to fuck up foreign policy and the environment asshole.

for the most part, Michael Moore can suck shit. He's entertainment. period. He's not an authority of most governmental doings. He's a great rabble rouser and serves that purpose well, but he's not an authority...he's a rich, annoying, mediocre film maker who has taken to politics.

Did you not read the report a conglomerate of journalists (Washington post, NY Times amongst other national press associations) came out with back in the winter concluding that had the recount been conducted the way democrats wanted it, Gore would have still lost. After the election was said and done, they banded together and worked in FL for about a year, counting votes, factoring in the disenfranchised as well. They spent months on this. Was Michael Moore there? No. Focusing so much on FL is assinine because there are 49 other states.

Bush is the president as legally as can possibly be. The Supreme Court ruled on fairly sound legal precendence, granted its a ultra conservative court, but the system appears to have worked.

Yes Bush is fucking things up left and right, but thats no surprise now is it. All Im saying is, look at the big picture.

"I don't see anyone fighting tooth-and-nail against the Bush B.S."

Read a paper. Don't expect riots in the street but a majority of the world has expressed some sort of dissent with Bush & Co.

People become complacent after years with a president like Clinton, give it some time. fucko has only been in office less than 2 years.

If you examine Clinton's record he wasnt exactly a friend of peace, environment or foreign policy. He deployed US troops more times than Reagan and Bush Sr. put together.

Oh for fucks sake, did I NOT say that I don't buy all of Moore's excitable spew? I brought it up because YOU cited him. You're preaching to the choir about that my friend.

I truly can't believe you're so trustworthy of the media. Read a paper indeed. As if the formerly "repected" news agencies didn't have a bias, a motive, a desired outcome of all that they report, especially now. Focusing on Florida WOULD be assinine if we didn't have an assnine electoral process to begin with. Alas, we do.

The Supreme Court can suck shit. Daddy Bush put a lot of those fuckers up there, many of them want to retire rich, of COURSE Baby Bush is "legally" President. You amaze me. Here you are acting like a forward thinker, someone who seems to want to challenge the system, but you don't like to look at the bigger picture it seems. Everyone has a motive, everyone had a self-centered reason for putting that fucknut in office.

Weehoo, the majority of the world has expressed some dissent with Bush & Co. Big fucking deal. It would be easier to count the people who ARE happy with the way things are going. Yet I don't think ANYONE knows what's really going on, nor do many people care to even find out. Does anyone know how big Bush & Co. is? Or would that hurt the American public's wee brains to think about?

That's half his time in office. He's fucked up quite a bit in 2 years I'd say (Kyoto anyone? Yeah, yeah, there are many other things to be pissed about, but that's one of my main beefs). Give it time? You think he's going to be President NEXT election? HA! So we sit back and ride the next 2 or so years out, head between our legs, preparing to kiss our ass goodbye. Very good, nicely done.

WTF?! Clinton deployed U.S. troops more than Reagan or Bush Sr. combined?! Who gives a fuck?! How the hell does that prove he "wasn't exactly a friend of peace, environment, or foreign policy". At least the bastard had some skill in dealing with foreign countries. At least the bastard KNEW where these foreign countries were and actually read the reports that were given to him. Like I give a crap if some intern was sucking him off while he did it. Jesus Christ, if you're going to be an a-hole, be a smooth a-hole and don't fuck up the country TOO much.

The man is a monkey, a drunken, retarded monkey...and he's not even good at that. I bet he doesn't have a CLUE why he's in office, except that it was expected of him, handed to him.

im not trustworthy of the media.

Im objective. Meaning, i read all sorts of accounts and believe the truth lies somewhere within.

Considering that the press is generally liberal in political matters, that the conglomerate was a group of press agencies with various bias of their own, that it was a group effort that sought not to better one agency or the other...its a fairly trustworthy assesment of the election.

So no, i don't blindly trust the media but in this instance i think its safe in believe what they uncovered.

Yes a lot of the Supreme Court was appointed by Bush Sr., some from Reagan and a couple from Clinton. Moreover, they were put there legally. If you have a better idea id love to hear it.

Yes Bush rejects world treaties like a somfabitch. Kyoto, ABM, Geneva Convention to name a few. This is not news.

To me it shatters a myth amongst liberals that Clinton was a peace loving fucknuts liberal. I dunno about you, but I am for peace. Not lobbing missles into a sovereign country anytime a terrorist organization bombs one of our ships.

Talking about a presidents intellect and articulation is one thing. Talking about what he does in term of policy is another. No shit Clinton was better articulated and educated. But thats really beside the point.

I don't know many liberals who are of the opinion that Clinton was "a peace loving fucknuts liberal". Pardon me if I think we're in more danger of doing just that right now.

No, it's not "one thing" it's all connected. I hate it when people like to separate things that have great bearing on each other. Clinton was better educated and articulated and that MADE him better at dealing with foreign policy. One relies on the other, dingleberry.

:)

Now if people would stop walking by my fucking cube, I'd be happier

yeah but to assume that Clinton (or any president) is the sole composer of foreign policy is foolish and naive.

yeah he sounds better and indeed that articulation provides more comfort...but its just that.

ultra violence keeps people out of my cube.

If only. Does it not bother you that this man represents us to the world?

Yeah, it's hard to attack people when they're merely walking by my cube.

yes and no.

it used to bother me that Jesse Helms was (is for a few more months) the chairman of Senate Foreign Relations committee, as if he's the kind of ass pipe we need mouthing off to the world.

BUT

i do give the world some credit, they know he (they) don't speak for all Americans. No more than I judge...say Cuba based on what Castro says.

EVEN if Baby Bush would have legally won the election, had the count continued....even then, it doesn't fucking matter. There was so much wrong with this whole process. Voters being turned away, ill-equipped and staffed polling facilities, "hard-to-understand" ballots. Fuck chads, that's just dumb. I work the polls every year and it AMAZES me what goes on. We were completely understaffed and ill-equipped last election here in California. It was ridiculous. In a precinct with two polling places, there were two competent individuals, myself and another man, running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. It was amazing, truly amazing...in that "I can't believe this is official" sad kind of way.

Our voting systems absolutely need work. no argument there.

If Nader or Gore had won, would you still be as cranky over the voting systems' flaws?

Date: 2002-08-05 11:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blustocking.livejournal.com
Yes, yes I would. The incompetence I saw didn't reflect on the Big Man in Office. I don't think re-vamping the voting procedure and correcting problems is high on any President's list of promises. Isn't that more of a state thing anyway?

as i understand it, state's voting methods most comply with federal outlined mandates. theres not one way to vote, but many the feds approve of.

however the standards are a bit out dated as we know and i believe the fed passed tighter standards since the election but its up to the states to impliment them.

Yeah, can they pass a law stating that no one over 55 is allowed to work the polls? Cause that would REALLY help me come November.

if they passed that law you'd be even more understaffed than ever.

im extra patient with the elderly at my polling station...because if they dont do it, no one will.

Listen here Mr. Devil's Advocate...

That was actually the point I was making, so many oldies. Yeah, yeah, respect your elders. I'll respect my elders when they deserve it and when they respect me back.

DO NOT misunderstand me. I am patient and courteous with the people I work the polls with. HOWEVER, there is an inherent difference between the older people in Los Angeles vs. say, the Midwest. Here, they seem be think the world owes them something, that YOU owe them something, and that they know exactly what is going on, when they don't. They're just like every other asshole in the majority of this city. And perhaps this is because they have to be, because I would imagine it's hard to be an older person in this gleaming candy-coated hairball we call Los Angeles, but that's a reason, not an excuse.

If it were not for the other competent, SANE, guy I was working the polls with, I would request a different precinct. Instead, we were able to sit back, chuckle, and give knowing glances to each other.

Like being trapped in a hen-house it was.

I don't believe in rewarding people with extra patience and kindness by default though. If you're an idiot, you're an idiot, no matter how old you are.

Yeah, yeah...now I'm playing Devil's Advocate. I was actually very tolerant and nice to them, but it doesn't stop me from bitching. Nothing really does. ;
